The Drop is an online retailer that uses AR-based technology to create custom suits for men – based on measurements, photographs and preferences supplied by the buyers themselves. The company raised £490,614.18, overfunding on SyndicateRoom in October 2018.
The fast fashion industry is inefficient, unsustainable and delivers questionable value to the consumer. Retailers mass-produce clothing in limited sizes and options, mark them up well beyond the cost of producing them in order to cover their overheads, and then try and sell them.
The Drop aims to reverse this process. Men looking to purchase a custom suit will contact The Drop via their full e-commerce website, where they can either browse the styles pictured in their gallery or upload a photo of their ideal suit. The price of suits is always £299 for a two-piece and £399 for a three-piece, regardless of whether the design comes from The Drop’s gallery, an image sent in, or is one the customer has discussed with a stylist.
The customer then sends The Drop a picture of their desired design, along with three full-body photos of themselves from which their measurements can be assessed using AR-based technology. In contrast to most high street retailers, The Drop aims to produce suits of any shape or size, with no difference in price.
