SyndicateRoom connects ambitious investors with the country’s most trailblazing companies. Started in 2013, SyndicateRoom has rapidly grown to have more than 100 high-growth businesses in its portfolio. By relentlessly focusing on the interests of private investors, SyndicateRoom has developed a trusted reputation and has been recognised as Best Investment Platform at the Growth Investor Awards two years running.
SyndicateRoom. You’re in good company.
A bit of background
SyndicateRoom pioneered the investor-led™ model in crowdfunding: members are able to invest alongside professionals and receive the same class of share and price per share. SyndicateRoom’s vision is that, on a £1-per-£1 basis, all investors (big or small) should make or lose the same amount of money, sharing the risk and reward fairly.
SyndicateRoom was founded by Gonçalo de Vasconcelos and Tom Britton, with the support of its own lead investors. Advisers include UK Business Angel of the Year Peter Cowley and super-angel Jonathan Milner. SyndicateRoom is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and is a member of the London Stock Exchange.
Gonçalo de Vasconcelos, CEO and Co-Founder
Gonçalo pioneered the investor-led crowdfunding model in the UK and leads the only crowdfunding platform in the world to offer investment opportunities from early-stage private companies to premium segment listings on the main market of the London Stock Exchange.
In September 2011 Gonçalo graduated with an MBA from Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, where he was awarded the Best Dissertation Prize and the Benavitch Scholarship for academic and professional achievements.
In creating SyndicateRoom, Gonçalo set off in pursuit of increased fairness, access and transparency within the alternative finance space. His vision is to enable great entrepreneurs to fulfil their dreams by uniting them with funding from all investors, big and small, institutional and private.
Gonçalo is also a contributor for Forbes, writing regularly about equity crowdfunding, business angel investment and venture capital investment, and speaks regularly at public events on the same themes.
In his spare time Gonçalo cycles long distances to raise money for charities (his last ride was from Cambridge to Paris), plays tennis and, when in warmer climates, sails with his wife whenever there is half a chance.
Tom Britton, CTO and Co-Founder
Born in Los Angeles, Tom moved to the UK to play football and after three fairly successful years realised it was time to focus on his non-sporting career. Before joining SyndicateRoom as Co-Founder, Tom worked in product development on a number of software-based projects including managing the development of the mobile applications for Trainline.
Tom completed his MBA at Cambridge, where he focused on developing startups, and has taken a keen interest in ventures focused on helping other startups. Tom leads SyndicateRoom’s website development team, though his skills and experience ensure that he does a lot more than just that. In his spare time Tom volunteers for Camp Footprints, rock climbs and still plays the odd five-a-side game
James Sore, Chief Investment Officer
James is a mechanical and electronics engineer with eight years’ experience designing and developing products for world-leading brands such as Coca-Cola, Hershey’s, Pfizer and British American Tobacco, to name but a few. Moving from a career in a boutique investment firm, James is now the Chief Investment Officer at SyndicateRoom.
