Our office in central Cambridge

A bit about us

We believe that everyone should have equal access to sophisticated investment opportunities, and that the crowd should get the same deal as the professionals.

This philosophy first manifested itself in our ‘investor-led’ equity crowdfunding structure, which made it possible for the crowd to invest alongside angel investors and on the same economic terms. Since then we have collaborated with leading industry organisations, such as Gust and Wayra, to bring our members the best deals and, most recently, rocked the world of crowdfunding once again by becoming the first crowdfunding platform to give members access to public markets.

And we’re going to keep on pushing the envelope.

We have established a reputation for quality and are proud of both the service we offer and of the network of members who we serve, many of whom are experienced and successful entrepreneurs who have chosen to invest via our platform. This winning formula is facilitating continued rapid growth which has been further strengthened by our own fundraising campaign, held on our own platform, which hit its target of £2.3m in ten hours before overfunding to £3.1m.

Everything we do is in pursuit of achieving our vision of a fair, sustainable and transparent investment industry. We invite you to join us on our journey.

Open roles

Investor relations associate

Location: Cambridge

Start: ASAP

Type: Full time, permanent

Salary: £22,000–£27,000

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone to join a dynamic, fast-moving company in an Investor Relations role.

You will be in constant contact with investors and companies so we need someone who loves communicating with people and can maintain a positive attitude when under pressure.

Day-to-day, you will be the main link between investors and companies so a high level of organisation is key. Each company is unique and fascinating - it will be a great opportunity to use and develop your skills whilst building and maintaining strong relationships with companies and investors.

Team integration is key to our success at SR, so expect to be working with people from all parts of the business on a number of different projects at one time. In addition to your role in investor relations, there will be ample opportunity to work on projects that interest you.

Responsibilities

  • Company and investor communication – you will serve as the bridge between companies and investors, working with diverse, exciting companies to get business updates and communicate these to investors.
  • Nominee management – you will be responsible for managing and organising the nominee duties of all companies which raise funds on the platform. This includes tracking investment rounds and ensuring all the required documentation is controlled in an auditable manner.
  • Process support – you will help to refine and improve our nominee and fund management processes for companies and investors, including providing feedback and suggestions, and even creating new processes.

Requirements

  • Must enjoy building relationships and working with people
  • Excellent communication abilities (both written and verbal)
  • Exceptional attention to detail with great organisational skills
  • Comfortable working with spreadsheets and reliably transforming data
  • Experience working as part of a team
  • Must have a good work ethic and be willing to learn quickly
  • Experience with the finance industry would be desirable (but not essential)

Full stack developer

Location: Cambridge

Start: ASAP

Type: Full time, permanent

Salary: £40,000–£60,000

What we are looking for

We’re looking for full stack developers at a senior level who can find pragmatic solutions to difficult problems. You may have worked in both backend and frontend roles, but enjoy working and learning across the stack. You know how to keep track of technical debt and write sensible tests to enable yourself and other developers to refactor with confidence. Crucially, you really know how to manage a database and create business logic and an API on top of it in Javascript, but aren’t afraid to roll up your sleeves and learn something new.

We have a small-team philosophy and set the bar high: fewer, high-quality developers and software engineers can achieve far better results than a larger team of average developers. You’ll be glad to know good developers will be reviewing your code, and that you won’t be carrying weaker colleagues with your hard work.

Requirements

  • Strong server-side Javascript skills (we use ES6 on Node.js).
  • Plenty of experience with at least one of: MongoDB, PostgreSQL and MySQL/MariaDB.
  • Experience building REST APIs which can be consumed by the front-end.
  • Experience with backups, security and disaster recovery.
  • Git (we use GitHub heavily).
  • An analytical, problem-solving mind.
  • Ability to communicate well with the wider team

Bonus Points

  • A basic understanding of Front-end development and experience with Vue, React or similar
  • Experience working with either MLab or Atlas hosted instances of MongoDB
  • Use of API authentication layers such as Kong
  • Testing and linting: Jasmine, Mocha, etc.

Back-end Node.js developer

Location – Cambridge

Start: ASAP

Type: Full-time/permanent

Salary: £40,000–£60,000

What we are looking for

We’re looking for an experienced back-end developer who can find pragmatic solutions to difficult problems. You may have been full-stack before and now want to focus more on the back-end, and your appreciation for the front-end will help you to take a holistic approach in architecting and building new systems. You know how to keep track of technical debt and write sensible tests to enable yourself and other developers to refactor with confidence. Crucially, you really know how to manage a database and create business logic and an API on top of it in Javascript, but aren’t afraid to roll up your sleeves and learn something new.

Front-end developer

Location: Cambridge

Start: ASAP

Type: Full-time/permanent

Salary: £40,000–£60,000

General description

We’re looking for an experienced front-end developer who can find elegant and pragmatic solutions to difficult problems. We follow agile practices and work in short iterations. You’ll be delivering MVPs then iterating over them in future sprints, keeping track of technical debt and writing tests where they make sense.

You may have been full-stack before and now want to focus more on the front-end, knowing that front-end development is far more than just copying and pasting HTML, CSS and some hacked-together jQuery. Crucially, you really know how to write good Javascript and CSS, and aren’t afraid to roll up your sleeves and learn something new.

Requirements

  • Strong Javascript skills (we use ES6)
  • Experience with Vue, React or similar (we’re leaning towards Vue)
  • Modern CSS, including flexbox, grid, animations and media queries (we use SASS)
  • Clean, semantic HTML
  • Git (we use GitHub heavily)
  • An analytical, problem-solving mind
  • Ability to communicate well with the wider team

Bonus Points

  • UI component mockup and wireframing experience with tools such as Figma or Sketch
  • Ability to do nifty things with SVGs
  • Experience with native mobile development and/or progressive web apps
  • Webpack, Gulp or Grunt
  • Testing and linting: Mocha, Selenium, Chromeless, Puppeteer
  • Pixel and vector manipulation in Photoshop, Illustrator or equivalents
  • Experience with mocking APIs (REST or maybe GraphQL)
  • Knowledge of the NodeJS ecosystem
