Downing Ventures EIS invests across a range of technology sectors, including consumer internet and mobile; enterprise software; financial technology; and health. It has funded more than 50 companies since it was launched, in 2014.

It aims to allocate investment across 10-15 companies in the UK, across a range of sectors and the minimum investment is £15,000. Geographically, Downing focuses on areas known for research and innovation, including Cambridge, Oxford, London and the ‘Silicon Gorge’ area, covering Bristol and Bath.

Founded in 1986, privately owned Downing has attracted more than 25,000 investors, and currently has more than £1bn in assets under management. It seeks out opportunities to invest in the environment, health, local communities and the economy.

Downing focuses on businesses within the enterprise, deep tech and healthcare sectors. It invests in ambitious companies, with growing management teams, led by talented entrepreneurs with a clear vision for their company.

With large portfolios, and a large network of angels providing access to the best deals, earlier, we aim to replicate that annual growth for our investors while mitigating risk. This data-driven approach aims to work around the limitations of a single fund manager attempting to pick winners.
