Elemental, a firm founded and run by a team of senior designers and engineers formerly at McLaren F1, Porsche, Lotus and BMW, is launching a new range of cutting-edge lightweight sports cars designed for the track and road-driving enthusiast.

The first mode, the RP-1, incorporates a carbon fibre tub, as seen in all F1 cars, motorsport-derived aerodynamics, dramatic styling and owner-tuneable suspension. It will be available with a choice of engines to suit all uses and driving styles.

Elemental's technical director John Begley said he decided to set up the company after being unable to find a competition sports car that suited his needs.

The company is seeking to raise £600,000 through Cambridge-based crowd-funding platform SyndicateRoom, and investors will get the chance to test-drive the car, and have first refusal on buying early models.
