Chris is an early-stage investor in high-tech startups, with a portfolio comprising approximately 50 software companies. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the British Computer Society, a trustee of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, and a Venture Partner at both Entrepreneur First and Beacon Capital.
After gaining a First Class Honours Degree in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge, Chris spent two years working for IBM UK before co-founding Metaswitch Networks, where he was CTO for many years.
Blind since the age of 18, Chris is passionate about accessibility. He competed in the Alpine Downhill at the 1988 Paralympics, captained the British Disabled Waterski Team to victory in three World Championships, and rode from Land’s End to John o’ Groats on a tandem bicycle in ten days, raising £100,000 for Fight for Sight. He also presented the Turing Memorial Lecture in 2006 on lifestyle, access and technology. Chris was awarded a CBE in the 2014 New Year’s Honours list for services to engineering.
