Canary

In August 2014, Canary successfully raised £251,000 to recruit in-house development, customer services and sales teams for its home monitoring system.

The story

Canary’s home monitoring system allows elderly people to stay in their own homes for longer, whilst giving their relatives piece of mind. The innovative solution provides round-the-clock reassurance, by discreetly monitoring movement, temperature and light, and letting relatives know (via SMS or email) if anything out of the ordinary occurs. The team consists of Chris Curry, co-founder of Acorn computers, William Cotton, former MD of Boots International, and Stuart Sheehy, previously at BUPA.

This round was led byMichael Harriman and established venture capitalists Mercia Fund Management.

#### Where are they now?

Canary currently has 26 trials underway with B2B customers, including Local Authorities, telecare companies, sheltered housing associations and online retailers.

Feedback thus far has been encouragingly positive, especially in regards to benefits of the system compared with competitors, the alerting functionality and the competitive price.

The business’ supply chain discussions are progressing well too.
