Pekama is an online platform aimed at transforming the world of intellectual property (IP). The company aims to offer a full solution for IP firms that want to grow their business and profits by acting as a matchmaker and collaboration facilitator in the IP sector.

Pekama overfunded to 200% of its target amount in June 2017, raising a total of £598,743.

The story

Pekama aims to offer a full solution for IP firms that want to grow their business and profits by acting as a matchmaker and collaboration facilitator in the IP sector.

Pekama’s digital platform connects IP lawyers from different jurisdictions all over the world. It provides lawyers with the data they need to make informed decisions about prospective partners and allows them to optimise their reciprocal revenue streams, thereby helping them focus on their domestic clients, all the while building a more sustainable, and profitable, business.

Pekama CEO Zeev Fisher is an intellectual property expert based in Cambridge, UK. As a lawyer, he is dual-qualified in the UK as a solicitor and an advocate in Israel. He is also a self-educated software programmer, and has been personally involved in several startups as a software programmer and a manager. Zeev has been managing intellectual property firms and advising clients on a broad range of matters for the past ten years.

The lead investor

Rockspring led the funding round with an investment of £175,000.

Pekama is at an inflection point … the CEO is from the IP industry and therefore knows the market well. This, combined with a strong and supportive existing shareholder base, means the company has a good chance of disrupting the incumbents.

Benjamin Gammon

Rockspring

Rockspring makes balance-sheet investments into early-stage technology companies with a strong knowledge base, or IP, which have a desire to grow and disrupt an incumbent product or service. Rockspring typically invests at the angel stage and makes only long-term investments. Their investees are predominantly UK based, with the exception of two based in Estonia.

In 2002–17 Rockspring invested in 31 startups. Amongst the company’s previous seed-round investments is Deepmind, which was acquired by Google for a reported £400m in what was then the company’s biggest EU investment.
