SR Carry Back EIS Fund I was a follow-on fund from SyndicateRoom. It invested in companies that Access EIS, SyndicateRoom's evergreen EIS fund, had already backed and that were showing traction. It made every investment within the 2025/26 tax year, so investors could use EIS carry back to treat their investment as made in 2024/25.

Individual investors each put between £10,000 and £170,000 into the fund. It invested roughly £80,000 in each of six early-stage companies, all in the 2025/26 tax year. They span fertility care, drinks, home moving, storage, hospitality recruitment and executive talent.

How were the companies chosen?

SyndicateRoom picked every company from its own Access EIS portfolio, looking for businesses at an inflection point: past the uncertainty of their earliest stage and showing clear acceleration in revenue, product development or partnerships. When the fund launched in late 2025, Access EIS held more than 190 active companies, and 63 met the fund's initial shortlist criteria.

From that shortlist, SyndicateRoom assessed each company's latest performance and whether it was raising money at the right time, and reviewed its fundraising materials, including pitch decks, financial models and cap tables. Every company the fund backed already had at least one of the experienced angel investors SyndicateRoom calls super angels among its shareholders.

SyndicateRoom's investment committee then examined how each company would use the money and whether its round fitted the fund's timetable, and SyndicateRoom, as the FCA-authorised manager, approved every investment. Each company had to issue its shares before the tax year ended on 5 April 2026.
